The NASCAR garage falls silent as fans grapple with the shocking loss of Kyle Busch at 41. The Busch Family, Richard Childress Racing, and NASCAR released a joint statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday announcing that Busch had died following a hospitalization. Officials did not share a cause of death.

“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch,” the statement read . “A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.”

NASCAR also published a separate obituary honoring Kylie Busch’s Hall of Fame career,

Fans flooded the comments with heartbreak and disbelief, with one writing, “Holy s**t! From what?!….He was way too young! RIP Kyle. You will be missed.” “He just raced didnt he? How in the h**l?” echoed another. “Thats terrible news. RIP. One of the greats,” mourned a fan. “He raced just last weekend. This feels unreal…prayers for the family,” yet another comment read.

Busch’s family announced earlier on Thursday that he had been hospitalized with a “severe illness,” just three days before his scheduled start in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The news comes 11 days after Busch told his crew over the radio at Watkins Glen that he’d need a doctor to give him a “shot” post-race.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Associated Press that Busch became unresponsive Wednesday during Chevrolet simulator testing in Concord and was taken to a Charlotte hospital. They requested anonymity because his team and family had not released official details.

Kyle Busch was the younger brother of NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch. He leaves behind his wife, Samantha and their children, Brexton and Lennix.
