R&B legend Mary J. Blige has left fans disappointed after her recent Las Vegas concert. Fans were not impressed by her performance, with one commenting, “Sometimes, it’s okay to retire.” The 55-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer was seen dancing, but with almost no enthusiasm.
Fans are stunned after Mary J. Blige gives lackluster performance in Las Vegas
The singer’s first-ever concert residency was titled Mary J. Blige: My Life, My Story.
What was meant to be a grand comeback for Mary J. Blige was instead met with online backlash. Videos began circulating showing the veteran singer’s lack of enthusiasm during her Vegas residency. She was seen sitting down mid-performance on a throne-like chair while performing a medley of hits, including “Come Close.” This sparked backlash from disappointed fans.
According to The Sun, one fan wrote, “It’s okay to retire sometimes,“ while another commented, “What kind of contract did she sign?” Another chimed in, “She hates her job.” An individual commented on Lipstick Alley, “If she’s this tired at a residency, maybe she should sit down for real.”
On the other hand, many defended her in the Hear ASAP comment section, with one saying, “She’s 55 years old. Cut her some slack.” Another wrote, “I saw her live in New York and loved her performance. She is highly entertaining. Mary is not a dancer like Janet or Beyoncé. You guys need to give her a break. She looks and sounds amazing.”
A third fan added, “This is a small segment of the show when the band is going through songs she featured on, the chair is symbolic to her sitting on her THRONE, the significance of it is that she’s the only R&B artist who has been featured on so many songs in her last 35 years! The numbers don’t lie; her regency has been extended due to demand, plus she came off a sold-out tour in 2025.”
Blige, who has received nine Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, four American Music Awards, and 12 Billboard Music Awards, will conclude her residency on October 31.
