Stephen Colbert Makes Quick TV Return With Surprise Hosting Gig Post

Stephen Colbert made a comeback with a surprise hosting gig post The Late Show. The 62-year-old talk show host concluded his glorious 11-season run of The Late Show on May 21. Colbert guest-hosted the Michigan public access show Only in Monroe on May 22. He also took several potshots at his former employer, CBS, on the show.

Stephen Colbert returned to fun TV hosting when he guest-hosted Only in Monroe. He previously guest-hosted the show in 2015. The veteran host also took shots at CBS with some witty one-liners. Colbert said, “It’s been an excruciating 23 hours without being on TV, so I am grateful to be able to be here on Monroe Community Media before they also get acquired by Paramount.”

Furthermore, he joked, “We don’t have any sponsors? And we actually lost a lot of money making the show tonight? Now I know how CBS felt.” Colbert did not stop there; he continued taking digs at his former employers through veiled, snide remarks.

He jabbed, “Viewers outside the greater Monroe area are able to view Monroe Community Media thanks to something known as streaming, which I promised not to learn about while I was on CBS. And evidently CBS also decided not to learn about it.”

Notably, Jack White and Jeff Daniels made guest appearances on Only in Monroe and interacted with Colbert. The 62-year-old is already working on his next commitment: writing the next installment in The Lord of the Rings franchise. A self-proclaimed fan of the franchise, Colbert and his son have been hired to write the next film. Director Peter Jackson announced it through an exciting post on Warner Bros.’ X account. The film is titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past.

At the time, Colbert confessed that he was “pretty happy” to be writing the next LOTR movie. He gushed to Jackson: “You know what the books mean to me, and what your films mean to me.”
