Bret Michaels Pulls Out of ‘Divisive’ Trump-Backed Gig

Bret Michaels is backing out of this year’s massive American birthday celebrations.

The former frontman for Poison was slated to perform at the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 this summer. Some unfortunate circumstances, however, have caused the Celebrity Apprentice winner to bail on the event backed by President Donald Trump.

According to him, the festivities won’t be what he’d originally thought. He says the event has become “something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of.”

The rocker will no longer perform at Freedom 250 in DC

Every Rose Has Its Thorn, and for Bret, that is the case for America’s big birthday bash. The superstar singer explained to his fans exactly why he had changed his mind about the fair. Bret says that there were “unfounded and unforgivable” threats made in the lead-up to the event. That left him worried for himself, his family, plus his band and crew. He stressed that his decision had nothing to do with politics. Bret adds that his shows are all about bringing people together.

Bret is among the many music stars to pull out of the event. Martina McBride echoed Bret’s sentiments about feeling misled about the fair and is backing out as well. Morris Day, Young MC and the Commodores are also bailing on the festivities. Financial transparency and the supposed bipartisan event. They believe it has become a conservative-branded showcase.

As the son of a military veteran and a family that served their country, Bret was excited initially to play at the event for that reason. Bret did say he would return to Washington, DC one day to perform a concert about the music and the fans.

There’s plenty of speculation about other surprises the President might have ahead of the 250th birthday. Rumor has it that he will pardon 250 people to mark the occasion. It’s believed that this may happen at some point in between his birthday on June 14th and the 250th birthday on July 4.
