Former attorney general Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She has confirmed the news in a statement, following initial reports of the diagnosis. The statement comes shortly before she is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Friday regarding the Epstein investigation.
Pam Bondi reportedly was diagnosed with thyroid cancer
Pam Bondi has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. According to a recent report by CNN, she revealed that she received the diagnosis shortly after she departed from the Justice Department in April.
Bondi had surgery a few weeks ago and is currently undergoing treatment. Speaking with CNN, the former attorney general said that she is still recovering and “doing well, though.” The diagnosis was first reported by Axios, shortly before Bondi officially confirmed it.
The report comes a month after President Donald Trump fired Bondi, with Todd Blanche currently serving as the acting attorney general. According to the Axios report, Bondi has been chosen for a new role in the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, a presidential advisory commission that focuses on artificial intelligence policy.
Vice President JD Vance gave a statement to CNN about Bondi’s new role. “Pam has been an enormously valuable asset to the president’s team, and I’m thrilled for her and for all of us that she’s going to remain involved in confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces,” he said.
Additionally, Bondi has been scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Friday, as part of its Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Bondi has sparked controversy over her handling of the Epstein files during her time as attorney general.
Speaking about Bondi’s testimony, Arizona Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Yassamin Ansari, said, “I think she absolutely could clear up many missing pieces if she wanted to.” She added, “Now it’s a question of whether or not she is willing to be transparent.”
