Joy Behar explains that her hiatus from The View isn’t really a hiatus. The 83-year-old criticized the media for terming her break as a hiatus, despite confirming that she’d be gone for two weeks. Guest co-hosts, including Sheryl Underwood, Kara Swisher, and Ana Navarro, will fill in during Behar’s absence.
Joy Behar talks about her hiatus from The View
Joy Behar discussed her hiatus from The View and how she prefers not to term her break as that. The 83-year-old said on Friday’s pre-taped episode, “There’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks. They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus” (via Entertainment Weekly).
Behar previously made the announcement on the Tuesday, May 26, episode of the Behind The Table podcast. She revealed she will be temporarily absent from The View as she travels to Europe for her play, My First Ex-Husband (via PEOPLE).
The View will be recruiting guest co-hosts Sheryl Underwood and Whoopi Goldberg, who will step in to co-host on Fridays, despite typically having the day off. Sara Haines directed a comment toward Behar on Friday’s show. Haines said, “You are working. I love that they’re calling it a ‘hiatus.’ It’s a break, people.”
Behar previously discussed her break from The View with the show’s producer, Brian Teta. Teta remarked, “This is your last podcast for a little bit, because next week you’re not going to be here.” Plus, Behar revealed, “Well, they made me bank the weekend shows even though I’m not here. You better tell people why I’m not [going to be on the show].”
She continued, “I fly to Paris this week, and then I take the Chunnel to London after a week. I’ll be in London for a second week, doing my play, My First Ex-Husband, at the Boulevard Theatre in the West End.” “We have Jackie Hoffman and I [playing] the two American women talking, then we have two British actresses. Doesn’t that sound like fun?” she quipped. Notably, Behar has been part of The View since the ABC series premiered in 1997. She exited the show in 2013 but returned two years later and has remained the co-host ever since.
