Donald Trump’s White House fight setup draws fresh mockery after he compares it to the Eiffel Tower. The president says he might “never, ever take it down” as crews continue work before his June 14 birthday event. The UFC cage was already under fire online, and the new remark turns the temporary South Lawn build into another viral pile-on. The comparison also gives critics a simple punchline about Trump’s growing White House makeover.
Donald Trump compares UFC cage to Eiffel Tower, says he may never take the structure down
The 47th U.S. president discussed the fight structure planned for the White House grounds. Trump said Paris once planned to remove the landmark after the 1889 World’s Fair. However, he claimed people later decided to keep it. Trump then compared that story to his own structure. He said, “We’re building something in front of the White House,” adding that it’s “quite attractive to a lot of people.”
Moreover, Trump tied the build to the June 14 UFC event. He said, “It’s going to have the big UFC fight on June 14th.” Then, he floated, keeping it permanently, saying, “maybe we’ll never, ever take it down.” The remarks followed weeks of attention around the South Lawn venue, which includes a large fighting cage and lighting structure.
Meanwhile, as per CNN, Dana White told Fox News the event would continue in rain or snow. He said, “The only thing that will stop us is lightning.” The CEO of UFC added, “But we’re working with the military, so the military knows the weather 10 days out, and they’ll notify us every two hours, 10 days out.”
However, the landmark comparison did not land quietly online. One X user wrote, “Man’s out here building landmarks on a whim lol.” Another replied, “We’re watching Idiocracy happen in real time.” A third criticized the wider celebration, writing, “You’ve ruined what could have been a great 250 celebration.” Another user said, “Since the WH is a circus it is only fitting if the UFC ring remains in place.” The backlash kept the cage debate alive before the president’s birthday spectacle.
