During his appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Strickland recalled attending a Trump rally. He described the experience as “f-cking nuts” and said it made him question how the events of Nazi Germany happened. “When you go to a Trump rally, it makes you question the sanity of everybody,” Strickland said. He then referenced Trump’s comments about punishing people who burn the American flag.
Strickland also claimed Trump’s influence over some supporters could lead them to follow extreme instructions. “Like, if Trump said go grab a gun and go do anything, they would f-cking do it,” he said. “They would f-cking do it.”
The UFC star’s remarks marked another instance of him publicly criticizing Trump. Strickland had previously been associated with the president and his political movement. However, he has increasingly spoken out against policies and decisions he believes could hurt Americans.
In April, Strickland criticized Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. He argued that the situation could contribute to higher costs for Americans while benefiting other countries. “I could be wrong, but as of now the Iran war has only hurt Americans,” Strickland wrote. He questioned how the situation reflected Trump’s “America first” approach.
Strickland also addressed his previous support for Trump in a post on X. “I have always been America first,” he wrote. The fighter added that he supported Trump when he believed the president’s actions benefited Americans. He later criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Strickland was absent from the UFC event held at the White House. He reportedly attended surrounding festivities but was escorted away from a fan festival. The UFC star has continued insisting that his loyalty remains with America rather than any individual politician.
