Jared Leto’s Band Enforces Biometric Ticket Verification Ahead of 2027 European Tour

Jared Leto’s ‘30 Seconds to Mars’ now requires ticket buyers to be “or-verified,” i.e., their irises scanned biometrically to prove they are human.

Leto’s team is going on an all-out war against bots that claim and hoard tickets, such that human fans cannot access the shows as they show sold out.

Leto’s band is asking fans to fight back against bots by employing a technology derived from Sam Altman’s Tools For Humanity, the company behind World ID. World ID is designed to create digital passports for humans using iris scans and face recognition.

San Francisco Standard reports that the new system is being put in place for the 40 Seconds To Mars 2027 European tour, covering Munich, Berlin, Hanover, London, and Manchester. Fans have to use World’s physical scanning devices to scan their eyes and prove they are human.

Once proven, each ticket includes the benefit of another free ticket for a plus-one, in addition to merch vouchers.

Leto continues to push boundaries in his music. The eye scan, other than being an anti-scalping measure, also raises excitement with fans. World has declared that their technology has so far blocked more than 100,000 automated free ticket requests and reserved tickets for 1,000 tickets for verified humans for the band’s Humans Only Concert in San Francisco.

Tiago Sada, chief product officer at Tools for Humanity, explained that fans lose out on tickets to bots who scalp them within a few seconds of tickets being made publicly available. She also added that she was concerned that things would get worse as AI improves rapidly.

This innovation may set a strong precedent for bands to join the bandwagon in order to protect authenticity and fairness in ticket distribution, thus combating the scalping onslaught being brought on by AI bots.
