Things couldn’t be better with Hayley Erbert these days. The wife of Derek Hough has a lot to be thankful for, which may not have been the case a few years ago. Hayley suffered severe brain bleeding in 2023 during a visit to Washington, D.C.
This took place while on tour for the Symphony of Dance. She experienced seizures and had to get emergency brain surgery. Last December, she and the current Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) judge welcomed their first child together, daughter Everley Capri. Their new baby is not the only miracle Hayley is experiencing.
The pro dancer is feeling “really strong” two years down the line

Seemingly on the brink of death in 2023, Hayley’s health has taken a remarkable turn for the better. Speaking exclusively with E! News, she says, “I’m doing great now.” Hayley adds that “I feel really strong, really healthy.” This update occurred during Sunday’s Symphony of Dance premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Both she and Derek are enjoying parenthood, which they call the most rewarding part of their life right now. “Every day is something different, something new. It’s been incredible,” said Derek. The same year that Hayley had her near-death experience, she and Derek got married. The couple had been dating for eight years before saying I do.
The New York City premiere of the Symphony of Dance documentary discussed Hayley’s brain surgery in 2023, along with her road to recovery. Derek admits that he’s in awe of everything she’s overcome, praising her resilience.
Since becoming a mother, the pro dancer admits to feeling a roller coaster of emotions. While she’s grateful to raise her daughter, she also said on Instagram that it’s “more complex and contradicting than I could have ever imagined.” In February of 2024, she admitted that she was “grateful to be alive,” following her brain surgery. Derek will return as a judge on Season 35 of DWTS this fall.
