Cardi B has criticized Karmelo Anthony‘s verdict, who fatally stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf in 2025. A jury has sentenced the Texas teenager to 35 years in prison. Reacting to it, the 33-year-old rapper wrote on X, “Wow! Just freakin’ wow! DISGUSTING…”
She didn’t mention names, but Cardi B apparently responds to the verdict involving Karmelo Anthony
According to the Washington Times, the jury in Collin County took about three hours to reach a unanimous verdict, finding Anthony guilty of murder. Texas District Court Judge John Roach Jr. read the verdict, which carried a potential maximum sentence of 99 years in prison.
At the time of the killing, Anthony was 17, but Texas law permitted him to be tried as an adult. He is now 19. Anthony admitted to the stabbing, while his legal team maintained that he was acting in self-defense. Jurors rejected the defense’ “sudden passion” claim, which could have lowered the sentence to under 20 years.
After the verdict was announced, Cardi B took to X and wrote, “Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice; this is trying to make an example!!!” While the rapper never named Karmelo directly, she retweeted several posts supporting the teenage convict.
The Collin County NAACP said it was “enraged” by the verdict via a Facebook post questioning “fairness, representation, and confidence in our justice system.”
Jury selection drew scrutiny over racial dynamics, as the 12-member jury with six alternates included no Black jurors, reports The Dallas Express. The jury included three Asian women, one Middle Eastern woman wearing a hijab, at least one Hispanic juror, and another woman of color, while all male jurors were reported to be white.
However, in closing arguments, as per CNN, First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye told jurors, “This case has nothing to do with race. This case has nothing to do with self-defense. This was an unprovoked, unjustified murder. It is senseless.”
