President Donald Trump attended the New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs game at Madison Square Garden. However, he was met with boos after being displayed on the big screen during the reveal of the U.S. flag. Later, the White House took to social media to label the president as the “King of New York,” which wasn’t received well by the public either.
White House posts about Donald Trump after Knicks game
The White House took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of Trump facing the U.S. flag and giving a military salute during the NBA finals. The caption read, “King of New York.” During this time, he reportedly faced boos from the audience after being displayed on the jumbo screen of MSG.
However, the boos didn’t appear to have affected him, given he perceived them positively. Before boarding Air Force One, he addressed the jeers, saying, “It was, I think, mostly cheers. It was loud, and it was very enthusiastic” (via The Mirror US).
The White House post immediately garnered attention, with many taking to the comment section to call them out over this bold comment. A user wrote, “King of New York but he lives in Florida?” Another one added, pointing out the boos in the video, “Why don’t you show a video of it? Let’s take a look at how Captain Bone Spurs was welcomed in New York.”
Some also placed the blame on the president for the Knicks’ loss to the Spurs by saying, “He literally cursed the knicks” and “Bad luck charm for Knicks !!” One user also pointed out how the page neglected to post the video of boos, penning, “LMAO, good job not posting audio!!” Several users also came in support of Trump in the same post. Those reactions included “King of America. Cry harder liberals!” and “Trump at MSG looking like the true King of New York what an incredible scene.”
The San Antonio Spurs triumphed in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, defeating the New York Knicks by 4 points.
