Tyla’s Naomi Tarazi Bodycon Dress Hanging by a Knot Is Surprisingly Symbolic

Tyla turned one of the biggest moments of her career into a fashion statement with a deeper meaning. The Grammy-winning singer took center stage at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City, where she performed South Africa’s national anthem alongside the Mzansi Youth Choir before South Africa’s opening match. While her vocals captivated the packed stadium, her custom Naomi Tarazi dress quietly told a story of its own.

Tyla represents South Africa like no other in Naomi Tarazi bodycon dress held up by a knot at World Cup

At first glance, the fitted bodycon gown appeared sleek and minimal. The white dress featured sculpted panels in blue, green, red, yellow, and black that traced the sides of her body. They instantly recalled the colors of the South African flag. But the most striking detail sat at the neckline, where the entire design appeared to be held together from a single halter knot tied behind her neck.

The knot was more than just a structural feature. Combined with the flag-inspired color blocking, it created the impression of different elements being pulled together into one form. It further echoed the unity and national pride associated with the event. The back of the dress featured a corset-inspired lace-up detail running down the center. Created by Berlin-based designer Naomi Tarazi and styled by Tyla’s longtime collaborator Lee Trigg, the custom piece was cleverly crafted.

Tyla paired the symbolic dress with equally eye-catching footwear. She stepped onto the field in Jeffrey Campbell’s distinctive Booyah heels, as noted by WWD. A modern mule featuring a ‘transparent vinyl and a sculptural white wedge heel,’ cut out at the center. A metallic ring detail wrapped around the heel, adding an architectural touch that complemented the experimental feel of the look.

From the stadium stage to behind-the-scenes celebrations, Tyla’s custom look delivered far more than red-carpet glamour. The Naomi Tarazi design transformed national pride into a memorable fashion moment.
