Now, with the event over, an excerpt from Prince Harry’s memoir Spare has resurfaced. In the book, the Duke writes about his wife’s first Trooping the Colour event.
Harry notes that at the 2018 ceremony, the atmosphere was initially “good” and “upbeat.” However, one exchange between the Princess of Wales and Markle shifted the tone slightly. He recalls Middleton asking Markle about her experience of the event, to which the latter jokingly replied, “Colourful,” prompting a long pause.
He wrote, “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.” The interaction reflected the tensions among the royals, which Harry has written about in his memoir. Markle and Harry, after stepping down as senior working royals, moved to Montecito with their children. Since then, their visits to the UK have been quite limited. Tensions have reportedly grown between the Sussexes and other members of the royal family. While Harry has expressed interest in mending his relationship with his father, the situation between them is still said to be unresolved.
The couple is reportedly all set to visit the UK in July in hopes that things would be better. They are said to be looking forward to a positive trip this time around.
