Donald Trump Declares ‘I’m the Boss’ at G7 Summit

Donald Trump grabbed attention at the G7 Summit after making a remark that instantly became one of the event’s most talked-about moments. The comment came as world leaders gathered in France to discuss Ukraine, Russia, China, global trade, and a fragile new peace agreement involving Iran.

The annual summit has been packed with high-stakes conversations, but Trump’s off-the-cuff quip quickly cut through the diplomatic language. It also arrived at a moment when several leaders appeared eager to present a united front on Ukraine’s ongoing fight against Russia.

Donald Trump declares he’s the “boss” at G7 as leaders pledge support to Ukraine

According to Reuters, Trump jokingly told fellow leaders and reporters, “I’m the boss,” as he arrived for a session on global economic security at the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France.

The remark came shortly after G7 leaders issued a joint statement backing Ukraine and announcing additional sanctions against Russia. The agreement marked a notable shift from previous summits, where consensus on the war proved more difficult to achieve.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy attended the gathering hoping to convince allies that Ukraine’s recent battlefield gains have strengthened Kyiv’s position ahead of any future peace negotiations with Moscow. Reuters reported that the joint statement suggested Trump may be warming to that argument after years of skepticism.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also pointed to what he viewed as a change in Washington’s approach. “There has been a change in position on the part of the United States and President Trump,” Carney told reporters, according to Reuters. “There is a position that is harder toward Russia and more realistic, in our view, of the situation on the ground of the war.”

Beyond Ukraine, leaders spent considerable time discussing economic security and the West’s dependence on China for critical minerals. Reuters reported that France is pushing for a joint initiative aimed at reducing reliance on Chinese supply chains following recent export restrictions on rare earth materials.

Trump’s preliminary agreement with Iran also loomed over many discussions. While G7 leaders welcomed the framework, Trump made it clear he still expects compliance. “If I don’t like it, if they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head, OK?” Trump said, according to Reuters.

Between Ukraine, China, Iran, and a headline-grabbing “I’m the boss” moment, Trump once again ensured he remained at the center of the conversation.
