Prince Harry is returning to the UK next month with Meghan Markle and his kids for “Year to Go” events in anticipation of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. However, some are questioning whether King Charles will meet the Duchess of Sussex. But if an expert is to be believed, the monarch will surely meet the former actress and his grandkids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whom he has only met a few times before. However, any meet-up will be kept under wraps, with no photographers allowed.
“I am sure he will see the children,” Hugo Vickers, royal biographer and friend of the family, told Page Six. Although the Duchess of Sussex has spoken against the royal family in the last few years, Vickers still thinks “diplomatic” Charles will certainly meet the former star, as “it would only make matters worse if the king refused to see her.” Additionally, Vickers also thinks that it’s a “good idea that Harry should reconcile privately with his father, for both their sakes.”
However, not everyone thinks Charles meeting his younger son and his wife will be a good idea. A palace source fears that the Sussexes “will frame it as the royal family need them, and Charles needs them.” Even TV host Mark Dolan cast doubt on their motivations for returning to the UK. As per the expert, it sends a clear message that they “want to be back in the Royal fold.”
Explaining the reason, he told Bronte Coy on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive that the Sussexes’ “business enterprises are struggling” and they therefore want to “recalibrate with Royal credentials.” “They need the optics, they need the titles, they need the status, they need the elevated position it gives them because at the moment, we’ve seen that Meghan’s popularity is dropping in the United States,” Dolan said.
