James Carville says Donald Trump should be wary of people inside his own administration. The veteran Democratic strategist argues White House insiders are already turning on each other. His remarks came during a recent podcast episode where he discussed leaks, political survival, and a new book detailing behind-the-scenes stories from Trump’s White House.
James Carville tells Donald Trump not to trust anyone in his White House
Instead of focusing on policy, Carville spent part of his Politics War Room podcast talking about what he believes is happening behind closed doors in the Trump administration. According to the longtime Democratic strategist, officials should start protecting their own futures by sharing information about what they have witnessed while serving in government. “No one’s going to want to hire anybody out of the Trump administration. And the way that you get right with history is, start leaking,” Carville said.
Carville argued that many administration staffers may eventually struggle to rebuild their careers once they leave government. For that reason, he encouraged them to document and reveal what they know. Summing up his advice, he urged officials to “leak like a sieve” and suggested that becoming a whistleblower could be the only path back into political life for some people.
He then turned his attention directly to Donald Trump. Carville claimed the president should not assume loyalty from those around him. “Everybody is out for you,” he warned, adding that even members of Trump’s own team could be working against him. He also told Trump to “not trust anybody.”
The conversation was sparked by discussion of Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, a forthcoming book by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. Early reports by the Daily Mail about the book have already generated headlines. Among the anecdotes are claims about disagreements involving renovations at the White House, Trump’s preferences for his private living quarters, and details about his late-night snacking habits.
