Donald Trump Overruled Wife Melania’s Objection for Tech Billionaire — Report

Donald Trump may have had a fallout with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, but he once went against his wife, Melania Trump, to favor the business mogul. The President reportedly ignored the First Lady’s reservations against Musk by allowing him to stay temporarily at the White House, as mentioned in a recently published book.

Elon Musk reportedly stayed at White House despite Melania Trump’s objection

According to the book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, authored by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, the First Lady argued against letting the tech billionaire spend the night at the presidential residence. However, her husband paid no heed to her objections and invited him to take a pit stop at the White House.

The Regime Change report suggests that the ordeal took place at a time when Elon Musk was still heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). During one of their trips on Air Force One, Donald Trump inquired of him if he had a place to stay. Musk answered by saying that he hadn’t made any arrangements of the sort, prompting Trump to forward him an invitation to the White House.

However, Melania Trump strongly opposed the idea and protested against letting the SpaceX founder stay at their place. The POTUS simply overruled his wife’s opinion on the matter and allowed Musk to spend some days in the White House (via OK Magazine).

Elon Musk ultimately spent several nights at the presidential residence, making the iconic Lincoln Bedroom his own. He even relayed the news of his stay at the White House to reporters in 2025.

Musk stated, “Sometimes I stay at the White House…The President’s, very, very, I guess we’re good friends, and we’ll be on Air Force One or Marine One, and then he’s like, ‘Hey, do you want to stay over?’ and I’m like, ‘Sure.'”

Further elaborating on his stay, the businessman added, “And then he gave me a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom and… oh, this is cool.” Musk also divulged sharing late-night ice-creams with Donald Trump. “I mean, don’t tell RFK. He’s actually a very good host,” he shared.

Additionally, Elon Musk said that even though he did spend some nights in the White House, he chose to crash at friends’ places, as well as sleep on the floor of his office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on other occasions.
