Little House on the Prairie Star Leaves New York Apartment Amid Husband’s Child Sex Abuse Case

Melissa Gilbert is moving out of her New York City apartment, which she shared with her husband, Timothy Busfield, for eight years. The Little House on the Prairie alum has said she is now relocating full-time to their upstate New York property amid Busfield’s ongoing legal troubles related to allegations of child sexual abuse.

Gilbert, who deactivated her Instagram and Threads accounts following allegations against her husband, returned to social media on May 12, and on June 23, she announced that she is relocating. She said, “The last eight years here have been so special. A lot of amazing work was done in and around this city. So many theaters and soundstages. So many wonderful dinners with friends and nights out on the town. I’ll miss the walking and our neighborhood, the subway rides, and the amazing people I’ve met there and on the streets.”

The carousel included several photos, including stacked labeled boxes and one of Melissa Gilbert lying on the floor beside packed belongings. Another image showed the apartment before it was cleared out, along with a video tour of the space.

The 62-year-old, who played Laura Ingalls Wilder on the classic NBC television series Little House on the Prairie from 1974 to 1983, concluded by saying, “I promise we will be back, it’s just that right now…..well….you know. Excited to live in our wonderful home upstate full-time for a good long while.”

The relocation comes after Busfield was arrested in January in New Mexico on allegations of child abuse and criminal sexual contact for inappropriately touching seven-year-old twin boys on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady in 2022, reports Page Six.

The 69-year-old Emmy winner was charged on February 6 with four counts of criminal sexual contact involving a child under 13; he denies the allegations. He later pleaded not guilty on February 21 after waiving arraignment and pretrial appearances. His trial is scheduled for May 2027.
