The Video Timothy Busfield Says Could Turn His Child Abuse Case Upside Down

Trigger Warning: This article includes discussion of alleged sexual assault, with details.

Timothy Busfield, who is facing ongoing legal proceedings over child sexual abuse allegations, says he has a video of his accusers stating that the actor “never touched them.” The 69-year-old actor-director has been charged with allegations stemming from claims that he inappropriately touched seven-year-old twin boys on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady in 2022.

Why Timothy Busfield says the video contradicts the children’s allegations

During his recorded testimony before a grand jury in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in February, obtained by Radar, Busfield testified about what he said the children had previously told investigators. He said they had stated that he never touched them inappropriately. Addressing the grand jury, Busfield said, “I also have a recording of the children saying I never touched them, if you’d like to hear that. I have that for you if you’d like it. That was in the first police investigation.”

Busfield also presented multiple witnesses and evidence that he said would “exonerate” him, insisting they “aren’t just cherry-picked witnesses for you.” He told jurors that his “fantastic” lawyers uncovered the video during the case’s discovery process and claimed police also have a copy. “It’s from a body camera that we did the audio on from that (November 2024) investigation. I only heard it at the detention hearing. I have not heard it since the detention hearing. It says exactly what those kids stated.”

The Emmy winner was charged on February 6 with four counts of criminal sexual contact involving a child under 13. According to KRQE News 13, one of the accusers told a forensic child interviewer that Busfield allegedly touched him when he was seven years old. The child told investigators the alleged incidents occurred five or six times and again when he was eight. A second child also accused the actor of inappropriate touching. An arrest warrant was issued for Busfield in early January.

The Michigan-born actor later surrendered to authorities. However, he has denied the allegations. On June 18, Busfield’s legal team asked the court to dismiss the indictment. Therefore, arguing that prosecutors failed to present a fair case to the grand jury. The case is scheduled to go to trial in May 2027.
