Barack Obama believes that his and Michelle’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, are “cooler” and “smarter” than he would ever be. The former U.S. President and his wife opened up about their kids in a new interview. This comes after their daughters made a rare public appearance at the opening day of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Illinois, on June 18.

In their new cover story, PEOPLE noted that the internet has ranked Malia and Sasha Obama among the most chic siblings. Their father, Barack Obama, agrees with this. He began, “Let me tell you,” with his wife interjecting, “Don’t get him started.”
The 64-year-old continued, “They are cooler, smarter, funnier… Those two, Malia and Sasha are all that. If I were their age… I can barely keep up with them at the dinner table now, if I was their contemporary, I would just sit there.”
Malia and Sasha now reside in Los Angeles. They joined their parents at the official opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center and enjoyed the performances by Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Hudson.
Malia wore an oversized, tailored gray jacket, paired with a dark gray miniskirt and matching heels. Meanwhile, Sasha stunned in an off-the-shoulder top and matching midi skirt. A thick brown belt, with a Western-inspired buckle, cinched the top at her waist.
The Obama family shared a wholesome moment at the event when Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation, joked about the former president’s hair color (via HELLO).
While reflecting on how long she had known Barack and Michelle Obama, Jarrett said, “Now a lot has obviously changed since then, and I’m not just talking about Barack’s changing hair color.” Malia and Sasha Obama, as well as their mother, Michelle, laughed at the comment while Barack Obama smiled and shrugged.
