Portnoy, who appeared on Fox News, said that he would love to run against the NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. He said, “Sometimes I do feel like it’s my duty. I can’t turn away. I feel like I could make a change.”
Further, he defended his credentials, stating, “I’ve had a real job, I’ve done real things, unlike these clown politicians who have never had a job and never been in the real world for a day.”
He explained how, despite his interest in running against Mamdani, the local voters might be in favour of the NYC Mayor. If voters can look past their differences, then he might win, according to OK Magazine.
Portnoy also commented on Mamdani, saying, “If you listen to what he said before, he’s likely to come. I want to get as many socialists and communists elected and take over. And that’s what he’s doing.”
Soon after his challenge, social media users were quick to react. One Reddit user wrote, “He can run all he wants, and he’ll be laughed out of the polls. New Yorkers aren’t stupid, and they generally love Mamdani.”
Another wrote, “The best way to know an online personality is bad at politics is by their saying they would do a better job in office. He’s an overpaid clown with hot takes. If he wants to get into politics, he should start at the bottom.”
Mamdani has not publicly commented on Dave’s challenge to run against him; he continues to be popular among New Yorkers for his work.
