David Beckham turned his Wimbledon outing on Monday into a mother-son date. The star footballer joined his mother, Sandra Beckham, in the Royal Box for a day of Centre Court tennis. For the unversed, the Royal Box hosts members of the royal family, dignitaries, and celebrities invited by the All England Club chairman.
David Beckham takes over the royal box at Wimbledon with his mom
David Beckham caught Wimbledon’s opening day on June 29, from the Royal Box on Centre Court with his mother Sandra, alongside guests including actor Mark Rylance and Boyzone’s Ronan Keating.
According to the Associated Press, they arrived in time to see defending champion Jannik Sinner start Centre Court play against Miomir Kecmanovic. Meanwhile, women’s world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and seven-time men’s champion Novak Djokovic were both set for their opening matches later in the day.
A longtime Wimbledon attendee, Beckham has been seen in the Royal Box multiple times, including in 2023. Over the years, he and his mother have made it a tradition to watch opening day from the Royal Box. The duo’s Wimbledon tradition goes back more than ten years. Over that time, they have become known for appearing in complementary outfits at the event.
The Wimbledon date comes during a busy summer for Beckham. The English football legend has been crisscrossing the U.S. this month for the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The Inter Miami MLS co-owner was also in the crowd for England’s final group-stage game versus Panama on Saturday. The 51-year-old also caught Scotland’s defeat to Brazil in Miami and England’s draw with Ghana near Boston.
Sandra Beckham generally stays out of the spotlight. Her presence on Centre Court alongside her son was therefore especially notable.
For Wimbledon, David Beckham and his mother, Sandra, opted for complementary neutral outfits. He wore a tailored gray suit with a white shirt, gold tie, and coordinating pocket square, finishing the look with a statement watch. Meanwhile, the 77-year-old opted for a teal pantsuit with an ivory blouse and a standout pendant necklace.
