John Oliver took a jab at Jesse Watters for defending Donald Trump‘s remarks about the Reflecting Pool. The Last Week Tonight host criticized the failed renovation project, citing algal growth and peeling blue sealant. While Watters backed Trump’s suggestion that vandals may have damaged the pool, Oliver hit back at the claim and even referenced Watters’ 2018 divorce during the argument.
John Oliver mocks Jesse Watters’ defense of Donald Trump’s pool
During a conversation on Last Week Tonight, Oliver touched on the Reflecting Pool, which has reportedly experienced issues with algae growth and blue sealant flaking off in large chunks. Commenting on the pool’s condition, he said, “Trump’s renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool continues to be an absolute trainwreck.”
The conversation then turned to Watters, who suggested the pool might have been vandalized, as Trump had earlier claimed. To support his claim, he showcased a clip of two unidentified people and questioned their presence near the pool. He said that it is impossible to know what those people are up to and that if someone were to question them, they might claim they had dropped a wedding ring into the pool.
Oliver didn’t hold back, slamming Watters for failing to address the project’s poor construction. “Wait, is that the best you’ve got? God, that is pathetic. As for ‘they’ll probably tell you they dropped their wedding ring,’ yeah, maybe they did. Maybe those people at the reflecting pool dropped their ring after leaving their wife for a 25-year-old co-worker. Jesse would know what that is like,” he said, alluding to Watter’s 2018 divorce and his involvement with a 25-year-old Fox News producer during the marriage.
Recently, Trump took to Truth Social to share an update on the repair of the Reflecting Pool while warning those vandalizing it. He revealed that the pool is now fully operational, but the water release and the repair of the expensive waterproof matting would be done after July 4.
