Prince William’s Favorite Memory of Queen Elizabeth Was Surprisingly Ordinary

Prince William is recalling his fond memories with Queen Elizabeth. The Prince of Wales added his video tribute for his late grandmother on her memorial website. In the clip, he revealed his sweet moment with the Queen in Windsor.

Prince William recalls tea time with ‘Granny’

In a video tribute on Queen Elizabeth’s digital memorial, Prince William remembered his tea time with the late monarch. William would visit her and her husband, Prince Philip, for tea and cake at Windsor Castle. “Whilst I had the privilege to know the late Queen better than most, some of my fondest memories of my grandmother are from here in Windsor,” he said in the tribute.

William continued, “I remember many a quiet afternoon, having tea with her and my grandfather at the castle. This included chatting, sharing stories, and seeing how completely at ease she was here, surrounded by family and her much-loved dogs and horses.” He added, “To this day, she’s given me a love of teatime that I never knew I needed.”

The 44-year-old also said, “Watching her ride her horses in the Great Park, even well into her later years, showed a side of Granny the world didn’t often see.” He described the side as “off-duty, relaxed, and utterly at home.”

William concluded, “These moments with my grandmother are ones I’ll always hold dear.” Last year, in an episode of The Reluctant Traveler, the future monarch was seen missing his grandmother. The host asked him if he missed her, and he replied, “I do actually, yeah. I do miss my grandmother and my grandfather.”

William continued, “It’s been quite a bit of change, so you do sort of—you think about them not being here anymore and particularly being in Windsor; for me, Windsor is her.” The father of three shared that his grandmother loved spending time in Windsor. He further told the host that he is showing the place the way the Queen would like him to.
