Serena Williams Eliminated After Emotional Wimbledon Comeback

Serena Williams, who made a comeback for the first time since her last appearance in the grass-court Grand Slam, lost to Maya Joint at Wimbledon. This marked her long-awaited return, making it an emotional milestone despite the defeat.

Williams, 44, lost to Joint in a three-set match, with the second set going into a tiebreaker and the third serving as the deciding set, according to PEOPLE. During her match against Joint, she lost the final set despite winning the second set after losing the first. Alexis Ohanian, her kids, sister, Venus, and her husband, Andrea Preti, were also in the audience to support her.

This was an emotional moment for her as she returned to Wimbledon years after stepping away from tennis. In her heartfelt post, Serena thanked her fans and congratulated Joint after the match. She wrote, “It felt so good to be back on the grass at @wimbledon. I’m incredibly thankful for the wild card – and even more grateful my daughters got to see that it’s never too late to chase something you love.”  

“Congratulations to @maya.joint on a great match, and thank you to everyone who showed up and showed me so much love,” she added.

Soon after the loss, her husband took to his Instagram to post about her comeback. He called her an inspiration, stating, “Our little family is so proud of you @serenawilliams – even though it wasn’t the outcome you wanted, you’re an inspiration. We love you. @olympiaohanian @adiraohanian are also happy they got to stay up a bit past their bedtime.”

He posted a series of pictures, including her daughters, who were in attendance during the match. Fans instantly resonated with the post to appreciate Williams’ comeback.
