A Married at First Sight UK cast member has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The Metropolitan Police told BBC News that they have arrested a man on suspicion of rape relating to an ongoing investigation. Here are the details that have been revealed so far.
MAFS UK police investigation and arrest details
According to Deadline, the Met Police released a statement that the man they arrested was part of an ongoing case. They confirmed that the man has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
The police didn’t release any further information about the man other than that he was in his 30s. His name was not revealed, and neither was the name of the alleged victim.
While it hasn’t been confirmed as connected yet, this arrest comes after shocking allegations were made in the BBC Panorama documentary that premiered in May. The documentary revealed that two women, also unnamed, from the MAFS show alleged that they were raped by partners that they met on the Channel 4 hit show. One other woman from the show claimed she experienced a non-consensual sex act.
The women said these incidents allegedly took place during filming of the show. The show is one of the channel’s biggest hits and has been airing for over a decade. They accused the production company of failing to protect them.
After the accusations came to light, the Met Police urged the women to contact them about their allegations and file a formal case.
It looks like the police are pursuing a formal complaint now. BBC News reported that Channel 4 also said that the network would be conducting its own investigation. They have also removed all MAFS episodes from its streaming service.
