Jennifer Lopez Says Heartbreak Helped Her Grow More Than Success After 4 Divorces

Jeniffer Lopez has opened up about her controversial marriages on “SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma,” which is a talk show conducted in New York subways.

JLo admitted that she has learnt more from her heartbreaks than her successes, also stating that breakups should not be dubbed as failures and should be reframed as learnings.

Jennifer Lopez reflects on why difficult experiences have fueled her personal growth

According to OK! Magazine, the “Selena” actor has been married and divorced four times, the latest being her split from actor Ben Affleck after a relationship that lasted 21 months. The star said that breakups shouldn’t be seen as a personal failing, rather should be taken as a “launchpad into your next best self”. The heartbreak therefore becomes a learning opportunity and not a subject of brooding and pain.

“I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak,” the actor-singer explained. In a hot take from the interview, Lopez said that heartbreak allows us to introspect and ask tough questions, and can be a path to self-improvement. She said, “You’re like, ‘What the f— happened? How do I do this? Why do I keep doing this? Or why didn’t that happen? What could I have done better?’ You change yourself.”

Lopez claimed, “We should have a party,” she suggested. “People should say, ‘You broke up? Congratulations.’ Because one, you made a decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everybody.”

Lopez has been very real and open about all her relationships. Her first marriage was with Ojani Noa, a Cuban waiter with whom she was married for 11 months. This was followed by a 2-year marriage with choreographer Cris Judd. Her longest marriage of ten years was with singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Oskar. Her latest marriage with Ben Affleck ended in divorce in 2024.
