Zendaya’s Barely Held-Together Jacquemus Dress’ High Slit Runs up the Back

Zendaya turned the London premiere of “The Odyssey” into a high-fashion moment in a custom Jacquemus creation that looked as though it was held together by little more than delicate strings. The actress wore the white high-slit backless dress as the first custom look from Jacquemus’ “Le Bonheur” collection. Designer Simon Porte Jacquemus revealed that he had imagined Zendaya in the dress two years before finally bringing the vision to life.

At first glance, the sleek column gown appeared deceptively simple, but every angle revealed an unexpected design detail. The dress featured a halter-style neckline trimmed with tiny pearl-like embellishments. It was also suspended by thin straps that grazed her sides. The dramatic open-back silhouette plunged almost to the waist, with cascading draped fabric creating a sculptural effect behind her. The thigh-high back slit added to the boldness.

The gown’s daring construction continued at the back, where the open-back silhouette flowed seamlessly into the white headpiece. The fabric extended from the head wrap into a long draped panel that fell down her bare back. It created the illusion of a single continuous piece. Zendaya completed the look with white pointed-toe pumps that remained mostly hidden beneath the floor-length hem.

The actress paired the custom ensemble with oversized textured gold disc earrings that instantly drew attention. Soft bronzed makeup, rosy cheeks, a nude lip, and defined eyes completed the elegant beauty look.

Jacquemus shared a series of portraits and full-length images from the premiere, while also revealing the personal story behind the design. “I drew this dress two years ago with Zendaya somewhere in my mind. Today, seeing her wear it feels surreal,” the designer wrote, thanking longtime stylist Law Roach for believing in the creation from the very beginning.

The custom look proved once again why Zendaya continues to set the standard for unforgettable red-carpet fashion.
