A new demand for a colossal $350 billion military spending package has burst from Donald Trump’s Truth Social account. This defense funding push was coupled with a renewed call for his stalled election overhaul legislation. Republicans, along with Democrats, have already opposed such spending and prioritization.
Donald Trump demanded lawmakers pass Reconciliation 3.0 and the SAVE America Act
The president fired off his demands in a Truth Social post, ordering the House and Senate to treat “Reconciliation 3.0” and the SAVE America Act as their “Number One Priority” upon returning to session.
Donald Trump painted a glowing picture of American military might to justify the spending. He boasted about historic recruiting records met months ahead of schedule and declared morale had never been higher. “No other Nation can do what we do (It’s not even close!),” POTUS wrote, referencing the recent 250th Independence Day celebration as a showcase of unmatched power. The cash injection, he argued, would lock in that strength for decades.
Alongside the military funding, Trump revived his push for the SAVE America Act, a bill that mandates proof of citizenship for voter registration and largely eliminates mail-in ballots. Support for the legislation has consistently fallen short on Capitol Hill. Detractors warn that the president views the bill as a tool to interfere with November’s midterm elections, a contest in which forecasters predict heavy Republican losses.
Moreover, this is the third time Donald Trump has chased a mammoth reconciliation package. His first win came with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed in June 2025. A second, slimmer $70 billion package targeting immigration and border security followed.
The road to a third package looks blocked. Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Susan Collins warned during a June 9 hearing that pursuing another bill carried a “terrible risk.” Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who chairs the defense subcommittee, gave an even blunter verdict, saying it was “safe to conclude there will not be another reconciliation bill (via The Daily Beast).”
