Cara Delevingne is stepping into music on her own terms. The model-turned-musician admitted she once wanted to release her debut album under a different name because she feared people would judge the songs before listening.

Cara Delevingne is preparing to release her debut album later this summer. However, she did not always want her name attached to it. In a new Playboy cover story, Delevingne said she originally wanted to share the music under a different name so listeners could hear it without bringing their assumptions about her career with them.

“Originally, I wanted to release the music under a different name so no one would know it was me,” she said. She explained that she worried people would dismiss the project because of “preconceived ideas” about her fame.

That fear makes sense for someone who built a public name in modeling, acting, and fashion before turning fully toward music. But Delevingne made it clear that she did not create the album to impress skeptics.

She also said she admires people who have treated her as an artist first, instead of placing her in a box as a model. Stevie Nicks became one of those supporters. Delevingne recalled that Nicks attended her 10th show and gave her a ring from her own finger.

The Cara Delevingne music career has already started taking shape. Vogue reported that she released “I Forgot” and “Out of My Head” in May, along with a cinematic seven-minute music video directed by Jessica Lee Gagné. Delevingne has also spoken openly about how music helped her through difficult chapters in her life.

Now, the Cara Delevingne debut album feels less like a celebrity side project and more like a long-delayed introduction. She may have feared the reaction, but she has decided to let the music carry her real name anyway.
