Donald Trump recently made a claim about his approval rating that quickly drew attention after it appeared to conflict with several recent polling averages. Recent surveys have shown mixed public opinion on the president, including polling conducted after developments related to Iran and other domestic issues.
Donald Trump’s Truth Social claim clashes with new numbers from different polls
Donald Trump recently took to Truth Social and shared a claim about his approval rating. However, the figure differed from several recent polling averages.
In his post, Trump wrote, “59% Approval Rating. Prices coming down along with the lowering of oil and gas. Thank you! President DJT.” While Trump suggests these figures are for his approval rating, a poll by Silver Bulletin shows it is actually 40.1 percent. On the other hand, his disapproval rating comes closer to his suggested figure, with 56.5 percent. The outlet also stated that Trump’s highest approval rating recently was 47 percent.
Trump’s statement also differs from figures compiled by RealClearPolitics. Its polling average showed 41 percent approval for the president. Meanwhile, the Times/Siena poll recorded a 37 percent approval rating, according to Newsweek. As Mandatory previously reported, a recent YouGov poll found that 35 percent of respondents approved of Trump, while 61 percent disapproved of his job performance. The same poll also found that 65 percent of respondents believed Trump was using the presidency for his own personal gain.
Trump’s net approval rating in the YouGov poll was lower than that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, whose net approval rating stood at negative 14.
Newsweek also noted that Trump made a similar claim about his approval rating in August 2025. At the time, he wrote on Truth Social that reports about his ratings in the news were “fake news.” He also claimed he had “the highest poll numbers I’ve ever had,” ranging from the 60s to the 70s.
