Whoopi Goldberg isn’t holding back after two fatal ICE-related shootings reignited debate over immigration enforcement. The View co-host used Wednesday’s episode to directly criticize White House Border Czar Tom Homan, accusing him of failing to take accountability.
Goldberg’s comments came after the deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston on July 7 and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine, on July 13. The incidents have fueled fresh scrutiny over ICE operations and the agency’s use of body cameras.
Whoopi Goldberg responds to the latest ICE shootings
Goldberg took aim at Homan after he told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that ICE body cameras had been delayed because of a government shutdown. Explaining the status of the rollout, Homan said, “The body cameras have been ordered. There’s a deployment schedule on the books… That was delayed by the shutdown.”
Goldberg wasn’t convinced. Addressing Homan on The View, she said, “You can’t keep putting it on the Democrats. You’re doing a bad job, Tom. You should be doing a better job. You said you were going to do a better job.”
She added, “We’ve put so much money into ICE. I could’ve bought you a camera by this time.”
The conversation intensified after co-host Sunny Hostin noted that the Department of Homeland Security had already received $20 million for body cameras. Reacting to that figure, Goldberg exclaimed, “You got $20 million. What the h—?” before asking, “Where are the cameras, man?!”
The panel also discussed concerns about ICE’s recent operations. Sara Haines criticized the agency’s training practices, arguing that two of the recent shooting victims were reportedly not the intended targets.
“Enough is enough,” Haines said. “They’re not good at their jobs. They’re not getting violent criminals. They’re not following what they said they do. They have to dial it back.”
Former Trump administration official Alyssa Farah Griffin said lawmakers across Capitol Hill had expressed outrage over the recent shootings. She also pointed to reports that a temporary pause on ICE traffic stops was reversed after President Donald Trump called for continued enforcement.
As the discussion wrapped up, Goldberg rejected any attempt to shift blame elsewhere.
“This is on them. You cannot put this in the hands of Democrats,” she said. “This is on you. This is on you.”
