The four-time NBA champion LeBron James left the question about his next chapter in the NBA high and dry. His latest public appearances, rather than giving a rest to his fans’ anticipation, have only added more intrigue to an already suspenseful NBA free agency tale.
LeBron James smiled but declined to discuss his NBA future during Fanatics Fest
LeBron addressed his free agency during a live podcast on day one of Fanatics Fest in New York City on Thursday, July 16. The basketball champion refused to indulge his fans’ curiosity about where he’ll be heading next season. This was the player’s first public appearance since he officially announced earlier this month that he won’t be returning for a ninth season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Smartly dodging a question about his NBA future by Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, he said, “Just looking forward to what unfolds next as I wind down the final stages of my journey… It’s going to be pretty fun wherever I land.”
Later on the podcast, James acknowledged several teams that have been linked with him during free agency, but shut down any questions on where he would be taking his talents next season. “I heard Warriors… Philly… Miami… someone said I’m coming to the Yankees,” the player joked. “We’ll see what happens.”
He teased the crowd, “It’s going to be fun wherever I land.” The 22-time All-Star, now 41, is entering unrestricted free agency for the fourth time in his career.
The uncertainty marks the end of an era in Los Angeles, where James spent eight seasons and won a championship. He also became the first player to share an NBA roster with his son, Bronny James.
Fans are left waiting to see where basketball’s all-time leading scorer will play next season.
