Mitch McConnell’s Health Update Leaves Andy Beshear Wanting More

Andy Beshear is not satisfied with Mitch McConnell‘s health update, saying he wants more transparency. The Kentucky Governor said he has not yet heard from McConnell’s office directly about his condition.

Andy Beshear says his office still has not received direct communication from Mitch McConnell’s team

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear stated that he has not received any direct information about Senator Mitch McConnell’s health from his office. Although McConnell’s office shared a health update on Sunday, Beshear says he is not satisfied with the statement and wants more transparency in communication (via Forbes).

“I have not heard one thing from Mitch McConnell or his office,” Beshear said. “And everyone deserves a level of privacy on their health. But when you take on these jobs, when you represent the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, you give up some of that.”

Beshear added, “You know, it’s been reported that he’s had 17 and 20-minute conversations with different individuals. So call into a news station for five minutes, put out a short video, and it’s not just me.”

The Sunday’s official statement from McConnell’s office reads, “My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital.” The Kentucky Senator had also revealed that he was suffering from a “mild case of pneumonia.”

Beshear addressed McConnell’s statement earlier this week. “Now, he did put out a public statement, and that’s a step in the right direction,” he said. “But I view this the same way. Our families would have to deal with something like this. I mean, if anybody out there… your viewers were in the hospital for a month, they’d have to call their boss at work and explain what’s going on. Explain what happened and what their path is to coming back.”
