Meghan Markle‘s team reportedly made a special request ahead of her appearance on MasterChef Australia. The request has reportedly left the judge Poh Ling Yeow upset on set.
A MasterChef Australia judge reportedly felt slighted after Meghan Markle made an unexpected on-set request
Meghan Markle’s team requested that the term “royalty” be avoided during the show. However, they were reportedly left “frustrated” after the MasterChef Australia judge Poh Ling Yeow mistakenly introduced the actress as a very special guest. She said, “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before but no one like this.”
In the promo for the new show, Yeow was seen saying, “All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia … The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!”
Following the release of the promo, the team was reportedly frustrated that, despite the request, the term was used.
Meanwhile, Yeow was upset about her mistake. An insider said, “It wasn’t about Meghan personally. Poh felt she had been unintentionally drawn into a royal protocol issue she never intended to be part of.”
The judge reportedly wanted to personally apologise to Markle, but was told not to. According to Sky News, a source said, “She was willing to reach out immediately. But she was advised to leave it for production to handle.”
A source added, “Poh is full of energy – she’s always joking and lifting the mood. She tried to bring that same spark with Meghan, cracking a few playful lines, but not all of it landed as intended.”
There were reportedly several off-air moments between Yeow and Markle that would not make it into the episode. Meghan Markle’s appearance on the show will come after her brief reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla, as she reportedly met them with Prince Harry and their children. Neither Markle nor Yeow has made any public comment to address the claims.
