A report claiming that the late Queen Elizabeth II refused Meghan Markle‘s “inappropriate” request to live at Windsor Castle has resurfaced online. Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot in 2018 and moved into Frogmore Cottage a few months after their wedding. The couple made the cottage their home and reportedly grew attached to the property.
However, a report suggests that the Duchess of Sussex wanted to reside at Windsor Castle. The request was allegedly considered “inappropriate” and turned down by the late Queen.

An old report suggesting that Meghan Markle faced rejection over Windsor Castle by the late Queen Elizabeth has resurfaced online. As reported by Mirror, the Sussexes were provided with two royal residences after their wedding.
Following their engagement in 2017, they lived at Nottingham Cottage. It is a residence on the Kensington Palace estate that holds a special place for the couple, as it was where Harry proposed to Markle.
Several months after exchanging vows, the couple moved to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate. This was a property gifted to them by the late monarch. Harry and Markle eventually grew deeply attached to Frogmore Cottage and created many memories there. However, as per a report by The Times, the newlyweds had initially hoped to live at a different royal residence.
Markle and Harry reportedly inquired whether “living quarters could be made available after their marriage” at Windsor Castle. However, the request was reportedly turned down by the late Queen “firmly.” At the time, only the monarch and Prince Philip had private apartments within the castle. This is why the request was allegedly considered “inappropriate.”
Royal author Hugo Vickers previously told The Times that there were “empty bedrooms and suites” in the private apartments that the Sussexes may have liked to live in. However, he added that he could understand why it “might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there.”
However, there is another side to the story. Royal aides have previously suggested that the Sussexes were deeply emotional about Windsor. The reason being, it was the place where they married and where their son, Prince Archie, was christened.
