That detail prompted widespread speculation that the family may have been on their way to Diana’s grave, which sits on an island in the middle of Althorp’s Oval Lake. However, neither Markle nor Harry confirmed that the photograph was from a visit to the burial site.
Despite the lack of confirmation, the photo quickly became the subject of criticism online. An X user, @unreMARKLEble, alleged that Markle had intentionally hinted at the family’s visit to Diana’s resting place. The user called the post “disrespectful, exploitative and gross.” They argued that “a very private and personal family moment” was made public on a public social media platform. The post also questioned why such an alleged visit was part of the itinerary alongside vacation snapshots. The same user claimed Prince William would likely be “livid” by the decision.
