Sherri Shepherd has two new projects on the way, months after her daytime talk show ended. The former host, 59, is starring in a Lifetime film with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, and she has a debut novel arriving next year. Debmar-Mercury canceled “Sherri” in February after four seasons, and headlines ran across entertainment media that week.

Now, Shepherd will executive produce and star in the film, she told HelloBeautiful. “I’m very excited because Robin Roberts of Good Morning America and I are executive producing a movie,” she said. “It’s my first starring role on TV.”
The Lifetime movie, “Angel in the Rubble,” tells the true story of Genelle Guzman-McMillian, a New York City transit worker and the last survivor pulled alive from the Ground Zero debris after the Sept.11 attacks. It premieres in September to mark the 25th anniversary. “She was buried alive for 27 hours, buried under 13 feet of concrete,” Shepherd said. “The film is about how she found God.”
Shepherd said she pushed to be paid what she felt the role was worth, and that Roberts stepped in when the network first said no. “A beautiful Black woman [Robin Roberts] came in and was like, ‘What? Yes,”’ she recalled. “So thank you, Robin.”
Her second project moves her into fiction. “I have a novel coming out called Life Is a K-Drama, because everybody who knows me knows my obsession with K-dramas and K-pop,” she said. Co-written with Jayci Lee, the book follows a Harlem soul food restaurant owner who falls for a man in Seoul. It arrives in April 2027.
Shepherd addressed the cancellation on air when it broke. “It has been my dream to have a talk show, and I’m grateful I had the chance to do it for four seasons,” she said. She has also spoken about her weight loss in the months since.
