By now, you’ve probably seen those paparazzi photos of Tom Schwartz making the rounds online. The Valley star was photographed walking his dogs, and a tabloid immediately zeroed in on his body.
We’re used to seeing reality stars suddenly slim down thanks to Ozempic, but this time, the conversation went in the opposite direction. The photos made it look like Tom had packed on a few pounds. The publication said he looked “unrecognizable.”
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with putting on a little weight, but Tom just clapped back at the tabloid. According to him, what we’re seeing in these photos isn’t 100% accurate.
The Valley star said “it was a bad angle”

Unfortunately for Tom, it was the Daily Mail that published the now-viral photos, which means millions of people have seen them by now. The outlet described him as “unrecognizable” and “downcast,” framing the candid photos as evidence that he had undergone a dramatic body transformation.
“His trademark breezy ebullience seemed nowhere in evidence,” the article claimed, suggesting that he had let himself go after leaving Vanderpump Rules and closing Schwartz & Sandy’s.
Naturally, fans had a lot to say about these photos. Some people weren’t even sure they were real, thanks to the onslaught of AI-generated slop that makes its way into our newsfeeds. Either way, Tom took to his Instagram Story to set the record straight, and he did it with a sense of humor.
“You better sleep with one eye open,” he joked on his Instagram Story while tagging the publication.
In his next Story, Tom shared a boomerang filmed by his girlfriend, Kiana Carroll. In the clip, he looked much more like the Tom fans are used to seeing. He was smiling, holding a beer, and very much not looking “downcast.” His belly wasn’t hanging over his waistline, and his “trademark breezy ebullience” seemed to be doing just fine.
“It was a bad angle,” he and Kiana wrote.
We’ve all been there, right? One bad shadow and a poorly placed camera can make you look like a different person. Daily Mail, however, just took it upon themselves to create a whole narrative behind it. Clearly, it’s not true.
Of course, if Tom had gained weight, that would be perfectly fine, too. It’s his body, and he can do what he wants with it. But based on his response, it seems like he’s still the same Tom we’ve always known. He’s just got a few different angles!
The Valley airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo, and you can stream it the next day on Peacock.
