Kelly Ripa was missing from Live with Kelly and Mark. Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, shared that she is recovering from a painful dental surgery.
Mark Consuelos said Kelly cannot speak while recovering from gum graft surgery
Mark Consuelos, co-host, was seen hosting the show alongside a guest host without Ripa. Consuelos said that his wife is currently recovering after the dental procedure, and she is not allowed to speak.
He said, “Kelly sends her love. Kelly had a little bit — well, it’s not a little — she had a gum graft surgery. Her dentist said five years ago, ‘You can do it in about five years,’ And she joked, ‘I didn’t think I’d still be on the air in five years!’”
On Monday, Mark welcomed the guest co-host, Kevin Jonas, and shared details about Ripa.
She went through a gum graft, which is a common surgery to treat receding or thinning gums. According to Consuelos, Ripa was strictly advised by her dentist not to talk and has a long list of instructions to follow.
He said, “I’m trying to keep her to follow the rules, follow the directions.” While Jonas joked that it’s difficult, he added, “Wow. That’s got to be the hardest thing she’s ever done.”
The host called his wife a great “conversationalist” and shared that she is doing well while recovering after the surgery.
Consuelos said, “Last night she was like, ‘Can you look?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not pulling your lip down, so I’m down there like, ‘It looks great!’”
When Jonas asked whether it was painful, Consuelos said, “Yeah, it’s painful, but she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.”
According to People, Ripa is expected to join the show next week. The couple has been co-hosting the show for the last three years.
