Meghan Markle made her Australian TV debut as a guest judge on MasterChef. However, her surprise appearance divided viewers, with some criticizing her presence on the popular cooking competition. Some were also left baffled when the Duchess of Sussex struggled to answer a simple question about her favorite dish to prepare for her family.
Critics seized on Meghan Markle as she was unable to tell her family’s favourite meal
The episode aired on July 26 after being filmed during Meghan and Prince Harry’s Australia tour in April. It featured the Duchess making a special guest appearance in the MasterChef kitchen. Despite the warm welcome, Meghan faced criticism over claims she changed the show’s format by announcing the cooking time herself.
One of them wrote on X, “Ok this was the part that pissed me off! Meghan was meant to shout 30 MINUTES!! But instead insisted she would tell them personally. Firstly, that makes the contestants lose precious time & secondly it was about giving herself maximum airtime & exposure strutting about!”
However, Markle faced further criticism when she couldn’t name a specific meal she cooks for her husband and their two children when asked by the hosts. She said the question challenged her because she has to balance her family’s different tastes. Markle explained that Harry enjoys traditional British-style dishes like meat, potatoes, and cream sauce, while she prefers grilled fish and cooking with “pure natural herbs and spices.”
A user commented, “She’s pretentious and insufferable. She has had a cooking show, and knew she was going on a cooking show, but she can’t even think of ONE favorite family dish? Another questioned, “That woman couldn’t scramble an egg; how the hell is she on MASTER Chef?”
The appearance adds to Meghan’s growing involvement in cooking and lifestyle projects, following her Daytime Emmy-nominated Netflix series With Love, Meghan. According to Nine.com.au, the Duchess of Sussex is back at her Montecito home in the US after completing a short visit to the UK in early July.
