Tom Holland finally felt ready to conquer one of his biggest career fears during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour. The actor revealed he even volunteered to host Saturday Night Live, only to learn the show’s summer schedule had other plans.
That missed opportunity came after Holland openly discussed how dyslexia has kept him away from the iconic comedy stage. His latest interview showed that confidence has replaced much of that hesitation.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Holland revealed he recently told Sony’s marketing team he wanted to host SNL. He credited the studio for supporting the film’s promotional campaign before making his unexpected confession.
“At the beginning of the press tour, I said to the Sony marketing team — who have done such an amazing job on this tour, I really am so grateful to them — I said, ‘I’m ready to host SNL,’” Holland recalled. He then laughed while explaining their response. “They were like, ‘They’re dark during the summer.’ I was, ‘Oh, thank God!’” he told the late-night host.
The revelation marked a major shift from comments Holland made just weeks earlier.
While appearing on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, Holland explained that dyslexia has made the live show’s cue cards especially intimidating.
“I’m heavily dyslexic, which is one of the reasons why… I’ve never done SNL,” he said. “I’m just so petrified at the concept of, like, trying to read something and they change.”
Holland explained that reading aloud creates a mental block for him, even though he can read comfortably in other situations.
He said the read-through remains the hardest part of any acting job. Holland added that he highlights scripts and memorizes lines early so he can skim instead of reading every word aloud.
He also admitted producers have invited him to host several times.
“I’ve been really lucky that they’ve asked me a few times to do it,” Holland said. “The truth is that I’m actually just really scared at the prospect.”
Poehler encouraged him by joking that plenty of hosts had performed under far more difficult circumstances. During Tuesday’s interview, Seth Meyers echoed that support.
“I think you’d be great at it,” Meyers told Holland before introducing Wally, the longtime cue card handler for Late Night and Saturday Night Live. “He’d take good care of you. Whatever you need.”
