Cooper Hoffman says his mom, Mimi O’Donnell, enjoyed his new movie, I Want Your Sex, with Olivia Wilde. However, the 23-year-old actor revealed she had to look away during some of the movie’s BDSM scenes.

Speaking to People recently, Hoffman said his mother, a costume designer and theater director, has watched all the scenes involving blindfolding, spanking, and crawling. “She loved it. She was like, ‘I had to look away and cover my ears for some of it,’ and I was like, ‘Totally fine,'” reveals Hoffman.
“But she was like, ‘I really loved it.’ But my mom also grew up in theater, and she’s just an artist at heart. She knows the game,” said the actor, who is the son of the late Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Hoffman is particularly uncomfortable with the idea of his younger sisters, Tallulah and Willa, viewing the movie. The sisters, who were born in 2006 and 2008, are not an audience he plans to personally introduce the film to.
He joked that he is not going to create a formal movie night with popcorn and a “turn your phones off” announcement. He said he already feels uneasy about them seeing the media coverage, much of which includes him talking openly about sex. He added, “My sisters keep calling me, and they’re like, ‘I really can’t believe you did this movie.’ I was like, ‘I know. I’m so sorry.'”
According to Hoffman, collaborating with skilled actors helps create a more natural process when filming challenging intimate scenes. He says their abilities remove the need to overcompensate or force the performance.
Directed by Gregg Araki, I Want Your Sex is an erotic comedy thriller set to arrive in U.S. theaters on July 31. The film features an ensemble cast including Mason Gooding, Chase Sui Wonders, Johnny Knoxville, Margaret Cho, Roxane Mesquida, Charli XCX, and Daveed Diggs, according to IMDb.
