They argued that the court and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office should not limit public and media access to the trial. According to the filing, the officials might select the reporters who will be able to attend the courtroom. A source close to the case told TMZ, “The DA’s office never chooses which journalists attend the trial, and they won’t do that in this case either.”
Mangione’s attorneys also objected to the court’s decision not to broadcast the trial to an overflow courtroom. They said the court arrived at those rulings without allowing Mangione to respond. The actions violate his constitutional rights under the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments, the filing states. His lawyers asked the judge to allow a live public broadcast, just as the court did during his arraignment.
