Ariana Grande Speaks Out After Announcing Plans to Step Away From the Spotlight

Ariana Grande has explained why she plans to step away from the spotlight after her Eternal Sunshine Tour. The 33-year-old pop star confirmed that her decision wasn’t reactive or impulsive but something she had planned for a long time.

Grande’s statement comes after a representative for the singer told People on August 2 that she “will be taking a step back from visibility.” Adding, “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”

The representative continued, saying that the tour, which started in Oakland, California, on June 6 and will conclude on September 1, had been a beautiful experience for Grande. The individual further stated that she loves her fans and has thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the tour.

During her August 3 show in Chicago, Grande said her decision came from “a thoughtful and empowered place.” The singer, who recently released Petal, the title track and second single from her eighth studio album, on July 31. She said, “Sometimes when a story comes out that’s not directly from me, things can get a little blown out of proportion.”

Grande told fans she wanted to speak to them directly because of how much they mean to her. She said she hoped to share her feelings firsthand rather than let others project their assumptions, adding that she wanted to clear the air, reports Yahoo Entertainment.

“Basically, the announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It’s something that I have decided. It’s a plan that I have quietly made a long time ago,” she expressed. She further added that the decision came from a thoughtful and empowered place.

Grande added that she wanted to address the speculation because she had heard fans were worried that negativity was affecting her. She reassured them that the opposite was true, emphasizing that the rumors did not reflect how she was feeling.

Grande has stepped away from the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, People confirmed. She had been cast opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey. The production was due to open at London’s Barbican Centre next summer.
