Prince Harry is reportedly hoping for a heartfelt reunion with his father, King Charles, at next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham. The Duke of Sussex is said to want the King to attend either the opening or closing ceremony, giving them a chance for their first public reunion in four years.
King Charles will reportedly ‘welcome’ another reunion with Prince Harry
As per a report by The Mirror, King Charles is excited at the prospect of a reunion with his younger son, Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex is reportedly hopeful that his father will grace the Invictus Games next year, making a strong public statement.
A source chimed in, “Next year is a big deal for Harry. He is determined that the Birmingham Games will be the best ever, and it would mean the world to him to have his father there.”
Notably, the pair were last seen in public together for the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022 and her Platinum Jubilee celebration in the summer of that year. The Duke of Sussex attended his father’s coronation in 2023, but did not make any public appearances.
A source has shared the King’s reaction to a possible reunion with his younger son. The source told the outlet that Charles “would welcome the opportunity to see his grandchildren again.”
Interestingly, another source claimed Prince Harry’s real reason for wanting his father there is to strengthen his case for tighter security with the authorities. The insider dished, “Harry’s intention is two-fold. He would love the King’s support at the Games, while having his father by his side would also add considerable weight to his argument for security for his family to accompany him on the trip.”
For the unversed, Prince Harry returned to the UK in July this year to honor his commitment to the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham in 2027. Then, towards the end of his trip, the Sussexes, along with their children, met the King and Queen Camilla at the monarch’s private residence, Highgrove House in Gloucestershire (via Express.co.uk).
