Bella Thorne Opens Up About Her Darkest Period

Bella Thorne is reflecting on the most painful chapter of her life with remarkable honesty. The former Disney star revealed she battled depression and suicidal thoughts as a teenager while struggling under immense family and career pressures.

Thorne shared the emotional revelations during a candid appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She also looked back on her Disney years, her friendship with Zendaya, and the path that led her to reclaim her life.

Bella Thorne reflected on experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts as a teenager

Bella Thorne said growing up in Hollywood came with crushing expectations long before she reached adulthood. She recalled facing comparisons to Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Lindsay Lohan when she was only 12 years old.

The actress also described the financial hardship her family faced after her father died in a motorcycle accident when she was nine. She said her mother juggled raising four children while rushing them across Los Angeles for auditions because every job mattered.

Those pressures followed her into adulthood. She admitted she desperately wanted approval but never felt good enough. Thorne said the emotional strain intensified after she turned 18.

“I struggled very badly with suicidal thoughts and depression,” Thorne revealed on Call Her Daddy. She said she believed hurting herself might finally show her mother how deeply she was suffering. Instead, she realized she needed to leave home to protect herself.

Bella also revisited the 2019 hacking incident that prompted her to release her own intimate photos. She explained the hacker demanded more explicit images while threatening to publish existing ones. Bella said the experience felt “like being re-raped” because someone else controlled her body and personal choices. She ultimately released the photos herself to reclaim that power.

Today, Thorne said she prioritizes her mental health after pouring herself into Color Your Hurt. She has intentionally slowed down, created more breathing room, and focused on healing.

The actress also teased an exciting new chapter. Bella confirmed she is writing, directing, and starring in “Spring Breakers 2,” promising the sequel will bring a distinctly female perspective. “It’s balls to the wall,” she joked on the podcast, promising audiences “are gonna have fun.”
