Hannah Waddingham played a special role in helping her Ted Lasso co-stars Juno Temple and Michal Szymanski find love. The actress recently revealed that she helped make their first steps toward romance happen.
When discussing the couple’s relationship, Waddingham shared a sweet behind-the-scenes story. She also praised the pair and said they bring out the best in each other.

On the Aug. 4 episode of Virgin Radio UK’s “TFI Unplugged” podcast, Waddingham recalled how Temple asked for her support before making a move on Szymanski. “Can I ask him on a date?” Temple asked, according to Waddingham. The actress said she quickly approved the idea, replying, “Yes, you can. He’s gorgeous.” Waddingham also revealed that she and Szymanski created a secret code to help him meet Temple.
The code allowed the couple to spend time together when her routine shifted, Waddingham explained. If her appointments ran late, the extra time allowed Temple and Szymanski to go on dates. She spoke warmly about their connection and called them “the greatest oxygen to each other.” Waddingham added that their relationship is “beautiful, beautiful.”
Temple and Szymanski met in 2021 while shooting season 2 of Ted Lasso. They made their first public appearance together at the U.K. premiere of Top Gun: Maverick on May 19, 2022. They also went to events such as the 2022 Emmy Awards, the Fargo season 5 premiere in 2023, and the Critics’ Choice Awards in 2024.
The couple recently showed up together at the Ted Lasso season 4 premiere in Los Angeles as a married couple. Temple revealed that their wedding happened sometime “in the last two years,” but she did not share the exact date or location. The two also bought a house together, though Temple kept the location private.
Waddingham and Temple’s friendship became stronger as they played Rebecca Welton and Keeley Jones on Ted Lasso. In a 2021 Variety feature, both actresses discussed their on-screen and off-screen relationship. Temple described Waddingham as someone who feels like “home” and a person she can always trust. Waddingham said their real friendship helped them bring their characters’ connection to life.
