Lindsey Buckingham has offered a hopeful update on his long-running history with Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. Years after tensions complicated their relationship, a new project appears to have changed the tone behind the scenes. The guitarist is not promising a Fleetwood Mac reunion. Still, his latest comments suggest some of the group’s most famous wounds may finally be healing.

Buckingham discussed the shift with E! News at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood event Aug. 6. He said making Apple TV’s upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary became a “circular healing process” for the band.
The biggest change involves Stevie Nicks. “Stevie and I are talking all the time now,” Buckingham revealed. He also said the band had worked through issues that previously left their relationships in a difficult place.
Apple announced the fully authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary in November 2024. Directed by Frank Marshall, the film will feature new interviews with Buckingham, Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, as well as archival interviews with the late Christine McVie.
The documentary will explore more than the band’s music. Apple said it will examine Fleetwood Mac’s personal struggles, creative relationships and the pressures that repeatedly threatened to pull the group apart.
Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 after previously recording together as Buckingham Nicks. Their romantic relationship ended during the era surrounding “Rumours,” but their professional relationship continued through decades of breakups, reunions and public tension.
Things deteriorated again after Buckingham’s 2018 departure from Fleetwood Mac. More recently, however, signs of a thaw have emerged. Buckingham returned to the studio with Mick Fleetwood in 2025, sparking speculation about what the musicians could do together next.
Buckingham and Nicks also reunited professionally for the first reissue of their 1973 album, “Buckingham Nicks.” Rhino released the newly remastered album in September 2025, bringing the pair’s pre-Fleetwood Mac collaboration back to vinyl and making it available on CD and digital platforms for the first time.
Despite the warmer relationship, Buckingham did not confirm another Fleetwood Mac tour. He instead emphasized the personal progress the documentary created, telling E! that “all of that has been healed and worked out.”
That may be the more surprising update for now. After years of friction, Buckingham says old conflicts are no longer defining his relationships with Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac.
